Wantering loves brunch
Wantering held a brunch at the beginning of this month in the middle of Manhattan with a guest list full of inspiring people in the fashion and tech space.  Bloggers, designers and trendsetters mingled, drank and snacked. We spotted killer shoes, bow ties and even a neon collar.
A special thank you to all of the guests that made it out despite the torrential rain warnings. We have exciting features in the works and we can’t wait to share them with all of you.
And of course, a big thank you to all of our Wanterers; it just wouldn’t be the same without you. We’re busy working to make online shopping even better so keep your eyes glued right here.

We’re getting ready for summertime with this Polyvore set inspired by fashion blogger, artist and Wantering Trendsetter Randa Salloum of The-Unprecedented

If you go for what you want, good things will come. Moving from her home in the Netherlands to Canada, Leonie Markhorst decided that she wanted to be more involved with the fashion community. So, she started the fashion blog, The Signature Bow, and went from a fascinated observer of the buzzing online fashion community to a noteworthy contributor.
Engaging The Signature Bow‘s audience with animated blog pieces on fashion, interior design, and anything that inspires her, Leonie has created a blog that really conveys her unique sense of style and view of the world. Proclaiming her closet nearly bare of colorful items, Leonie prefers a muted, edgy and minimalist look for her personal style.

What’s the best thing about having your own blog?
The best thing about having your own blog is that you get to decide what to publish; you have full editorial control. It’s a great creative outlet.
What is your personal motto or mantra?
I am a collector of inspirational quotes, and always like it when I find one that suits my current mood or situation and becomes my mantra at that point. That being said, there is one personal motto that I truly believe in and always helps me in any situation: “listen to your inner voice”.
Who are your style icons?
Miranda Kerr, Emmanuelle Alt and Geraldine Saglio. All three ladies are the epitome of effortless style and manage to look super chic with ‘minimal fuss’.
You are all over social media. What’s your favorite social channel and why do you think it’s important, as a blogger, to be connected to the world via these various channels?
Social media is the fastest and easiest way to connect with the industry, gain exposure and engage your readers. It’s also my go-to for the latest news and, of course, a great source of entertainment. My favorite social channel is Instagram – I could scroll through my feed for hours at a time.

What are three secrets about yourself?
1) While I wear heels in the majority of my outfit posts, I am actually pretty much always in flats when there’s no camera in sight.
2) I have a dog, Peanut, but am actually a total cat person.
3) I enjoy a good private (one-person) dance party in my apartment…in front of the mirror.
What is your favorite Instagram pic?
That’s a tough one considering I spend so much time scrolling through pictures. I have to say, Margaret Zhang’s ‘flat-lay games’ of her favorite items are really awesome.

What is one of your favorite pieces from our Wantering Tumblr site?
The Balmain Guipure lace boots. It was love at first sight when I spotted them on Sara from Harper & Harley. They’re just super sexy.

What would you style this item?
Probably in an all-black look – they’d look great with skinny jeans or leather pants, shorts, a twirly dress that is cinched at the waist… These booties will take any outfit to the next level.
The weather is slowly getting warmer, what are you most looking forward to wearing this summer?
Denim cut-offs, wrap skirts/skorts, soft sheer tees, and occasionally my bikini.

If you could give one piece of advice to your 14 year-old self, what would it be?
It’s easy to sum up a bunch of things you wish you’d done differently and would want to tell your 14-year old self, but you know… you shouldn’t. I think this quote (from my extensive collection) is very fitting: “Everything you experience and learn in your life makes you who you are and will be useful”…  Good or bad, see everything as a life lesson. Don’t dwell on the negative stuff.

The quadruple threat has arrived. Meet Randa Salloum, feisty artist, style blogger, personal stylist and entreprenette.
This 26-year old founded her own creative venture called I See Noise in January of 2012. With the support of thousands of clients, Randa has been able to work full-time on her collection of beautiful prints which come in gold and silver with 8 collections to currently choose from.

From styling clients, to selling her prints on Etsy and touring the closets of Vancouver’s most stylish for her blog, The-Unprecedented, this girl really does it all. Ronnie, as she’s known to her friends, is also obsessed with working on her tan, fitness and dreaming of her next tattoo.
She’s been bit by the travel bug and will be jetting off on a few adventures this year so we grabbed the chance to talk to her before she jets off. Today we chat about her blog, social media and why she loves summer.

What’s the best thing about having your own blog?
A few things: first, having a creative outlet that I can use to put all of my thoughts and inspirations into play. Secondly, making my own schedule and being my own boss! I love the feeling of being free and living my life the way I intend to, not the way someone else tells me to. Lastly, being able to inspire my readers and trigger their creative instincts with beauty and outfits.

What is your personal motto or mantra?
I don’t think I really have a motto or mantra but I do say “That’s life!” quite a bit. Life is silly and it brings on the unexpected, how exciting! I do make an effort to be happy every single day. Not all day, every day. But every day.

Who are your style icons?
Ashley Olsen and Gwyneth Paltrow. They rock it every time!
You are all over social media. What’s your favorite social channel and why do you think it’s important, as a blogger/artist, to be connected to the world via these various channels?
Right now, Instagram has a major hold on me. I probably check it every 15 minutes. It’s extremely important to connect with my readership via photos because it’s the easiest way to get my point across. If I post a photo that I think is cool/funny/creative/pretty etc. and someone else finds it to be those things as well, then I’ve made a connection. I’ve had people #regram my photos because they inspired them. I’ve done my job.

What are three secrets about yourself?
1) In elementary school I told my class that I owned a talking parrot but nobody could meet him because “he died”… I’ve never owned a parrot.
2) I give fake names to guys I meet for the first time so they can’t Google me. Shh….
3)Although I’m very open and personal on my blog, I’m actually one of the most private people you’ll ever meet.
What is your favorite Instagram pic?
Right now it would be this photo. It’s of two photos I took while in California. The day photo is Manhattan Beach and the night photo is Palm Springs.

What is one of your favorite pieces from our Wantering Tumblr?

These Rag & Bone black leather shorts.
What would you style this item with?
A black tucked in silk loose fit tank and black caged wedges.
The weather is slowly getting warmer, what are you most looking forward to this summer?
Beach days, barbecues, runs around the city in the sun, sitting on patios for hours with mojito pitchers, and lots of travelling!

If you could give one piece of advice to your 14 year-old self, what would it be?
I once found a note to myself from when I was 13 that said when I’m 25 (now 26) I will be married with three kids and working as a lawyer. I’m single, blogging, making art and have no kids. I would tell myself to chill out and enjoy life, take it day by day and aim as high as I could.

There’s nothing like a challenge accepted. That’s how Wantering Trendsetter Bria Lear launched Framework Magazine last year after a friend challenged her to go after her dreams. Unhappy with her job, Bria took a big step and giant leap of faith to turn her major digital magazine envy into a reality. Fast forward one year and now she’s the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Framework Magazine.
Calling herself a “social homebody,” Bria is the type of girl who’ll blast music and dance around the living room when nobody’s looking. She loves experimenting in the kitchen and hosting dinner parties or settling in with a good book. Based in Vancouver, Canada, Bria shows us what west coast style and the Framework Girl is all about - looking classy and fabulous.

What’s the best thing about having your own blog/magazine?
The creative freedom is huge! I’m very lucky to work with a fantastic team of talented contributors—the Framework Family—who make all the ideas and inspirations come to life each month. Even better than the end results, however, is meeting and building relationships with so many amazing people. It’s been incredibly energizing to interview, work with, or connect to women (and men!) all over the world who identify with Framework’s vision.
What is your personal motto or mantra?
“Hard work beats talent if talent doesn’t work hard.”  Sure, we’re all naturally more adept at certain things, but I truly believe that dedication and perseverance pay off. Combine these with one of your natural talents and a good dose of passion and you’re a force to be reckoned with!

Who are your style icons?
That’s tough, I personally get dressed based on my mood and the persona or feeling I’d like to project. That said, I adore Jenna Lyons and Olivia Palermo for their ability to mix fresh classics and trends with effortless ease.
You are all over social media. What’s your favorite social channel and why do you think it’s important, as a blogger/editor, to be connected to the world via these various channels?
I love Instagram! I’m a visual person, and I enjoy sharing what goes on behind the scenes (and seeing the same from those I follow!). Social media has allowed anyone to build a brand and really interact with peers, clients, and industry leaders… for free! Channels like Twitter and Instagram also really lend themselves to chatting and connecting with people you may not be able to reach otherwise.
When it comes to business, they’ve eliminated the cold call. It’s so easy to establish an initial rapport that follow-up emails, calls, or in-person introductions are no longer awkward. I could easily attribute more than half of my current business network to interactions on Twitter.  From another perspective, I absolutely love chatting with Framework’s readers through social media!

What are three secrets about yourself?
1) I studied Japanese in my first year of university.
2) I love to cook but have never turned on a BBQ sans assistance.
3) I’ve slept with the cargo—boxes of fruit and vegetables—on an overnight boat ride in Thailand.
What is your favorite Instagram pic?
This photo sums up the Framework Girl AND is a celebration of Framework’s first anniversary—flowers sent by my parents from my favourite local florist, The Flower Factory, and art prints courtesy of Stephanie Sterjovski (our February cover girl) and Kardz Kouture.

What is one of your favorite pieces from our Wantering Tumblr site?

This PJK Patterson J. Kincaid Ralin Skirt has a classic silhouette but the print is so playful! I’d style it with a drapey cashmere blend tee, and a bold statement necklace with fluorescent details. Switching from ballet flats to pumps and a silk tank would easily take this outfit from day to night.
The weather is slowly getting warmer, what are you most looking forward to wearing this summer?
Bikinis and dresses will forever be my favourite attire! In past lives I was most likely a surfing beach bum gypsy and a 1950’s socialite.
If you could give one piece of advice to your 14 year-old self, what would it be?
Act with confidence and don’t be so afraid of failure.  I was extremely shy, which probably came across as stuck-up.

When these girls get together, it’s no wonder they have so much fun. Bria Lear, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Framework Magazine, Randa Salloum, fashion blogger at The-Unprecedented and designer of I See Noise Prints, and Leonie Markhorst fashion blogger at The Signature Bow are all smart, driven, passionate, and not to mention stylish.
Based in Vancouver, these three lovely ladies came to together for an exclusive Wantering Trendsetter series over the next few days. To give you a sneak peek at what’s to come we share one of our questions with you today.

W: What is the coolest fashion experience you’ve had?
Bria: I have a degree and background in Fashion Design, so seeing a collection that I designed, drafted, and sewed come down the runway was pretty cool.  Also, meeting Leandra Medine of The Man Repeller was a lot of fun!
Randa: Being told “Congratulations on being in FASHION Magazine!” without knowing I was in it. Then purchasing the magazine, flipping through the pages and seeing myself up front and center on a trend page.
Leonie: This probably sounds corny, but it’s true: the coolest fashion experience I’ve had so far is probably having my own blog. Through this medium I made amazing friends, worked with (local) brands and designers, and attended some really fun events. It has directly influenced and helped my personal life – living abroad can be lonely at times, especially in the beginning.

Ambition is key to success. Just 21-years old, Oliver Lips is skillfully balancing a finance job in Zurich, Switzerland while maintaining and growing a stylish men’s fashion blog on the side. Oh and to add to that, he also finds time to make short films. Pretty impressive.
Out of a life long passion for fashion and style experimentation, Oliver started his blog Lips 2 Lagerfeld just last year in 2012, with so-called “fashion experiments” that have produced excellent results, to say the least. Oliver’s brother Moritz follows along in his artistic endeavors by leading the blog’s photography and sharing a fascination for film, with the two of them composing short pieces together with their friend, Julian.
This Swiss trendsetter was discovered through Wantering’s Trendsetters site and now we’re here to learn more about the fashion scene in Zurich, the inspirational role of Karl Lagerfeld and where Oliver dreams to be in the future.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I did an apprenticeship at a very famous Swiss bank and I am currently still working in the financial sector, but I am seeking to work full-time in fashion. Another passion of mine is film, a passion which I share with my brother Moritz and a friend of ours, Julian. Not only are we frequent cinema-goers and movie-watchers, but we are also involved in doing our own short films.
I started blogging at the end of October 2012 out of passion for fashion and now it has become a serious business for my brother and I. We are constantly thriving for perfection in order to maintain high quality of blog content. Whatever we are working on - professionalism is the key word for us.

You were born in Zurich, Switzerland. What’s the fashion scene like?
The style of Switzerland is very average in general. I wouldn’t say the people dress super fancy nor particularly bad. In Zurich, the style is extremely influenced by stores like H&M and Zara. Unfortunately, young people don’t look for cool alternative brands, which I of course am trying to change with my blog.
Everyone has to find his or her personal style and I think Switzerland is still searching for its place in the global fashion industry. I am sure that events such as the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Days Zurich or the Mode Suisse will help.

Please dish on your love for Karl Lagerfeld.
The fact that Karl Lagerfeld is a genius isn’t up for debate. I am amazed by his passion, discipline, willpower, creativity and depth. What astonishes me over and over again is the fact that a man of 79-years old is able to design more than ten collections a year, has the time for various collaborations such as the latest one with Brazilian shoe brand Melissa, or his newly presented watch-collection. Not to mention all the photo shoots he does for magazines and campaigns and he also states to have read over 300,000 books, so I’m just saying…
He just shows what we can reach when going beyond our limitations.

We notice you’re daring and aren’t afraid to experiment. What’s your personal style like?
My personal style depends on my mood; when I get up in the morning I have a certain feeling of how I want to dress myself that day. It can be elegant, casual, rock, fancy and what I really like to do is mixing pieces together I would not have thought matched. As my mother is Danish I am also very drawn to the minimalistic Scandinavian style. If there is a style I have forgot to mention, I am more than curious to try it out. Experimenting keeps your spirit fresh!
What fellow bloggers do you draw inspiration from?
As my style is indefinable I take bits and pieces from more daring fashion bloggers like Bryanboy or Pelayo Diaz , but also Scandinavian inspiration provided by Andreas Wijk. And as we can travel the world in a split second I like to see what Brazilian fashion blogger Vini Uehara wears in his everyday life.
While the lines between men’s and women’s wear get thinner and thinner, I also get inspired by female bloggers such as Kristina Bazan, Denni Elias or Sabrina Meijer, not in terms of clothing of course, but in terms of style.

What is your personal motto?
“Do whatever makes you happy.”
It might not sound like it is hard to do so, but nowadays there are so many people who aren’t fulfilled in their lives, because they bind themselves to something they don’t want to do. So why not challenge yourself asking if you are doing what makes you happy?

What’s the coolest fashion experience you’ve ever had?
I was amazingly happy to have been invited to Baselworld 2013. It was a great experience and both my brother Moritz and I were massively impressed by the effort of the different watch brands. All the luxurious brands under one roof is a must-see. After all, the watch is one of the most important accessories when it comes to your outfit (although I haven’t found mine yet).
If you could give one piece of advice to your 14 year-old self, what would it be?
Dare more and don’t care what others might think of you.
What is your favorite style pick from the Wantering Tumblr and why?
The Paul Smith fringed leather sandalsSandals are the perfect shoes for the summer. They are comfortable to wear, you won’t be sweating in them and you can match them to shorts as well as pants. What I really like about the ones by Paul Smith is the extraordinary shape, I mean they are just uber cool!
What are your dreams and goals for the future?
In the near future, I am hoping for more readers on my blog who share the same interests as I do and who are not only happy for the clothes I wear, but also the way they are being presented. I hope to be able to work with great brands that are interested in a long-term collaboration. And last but not least, to travel the world, meet all the fantastic people out there I haven’t met yet and get some more experience!
