Wanterers, fret not. The 4 major Fashion Weeks may have officially ended one week ago but the web is still buzzing in anticipation for Fashion Weeks in other fashionable cities across the globe. Cities like Los Angeles, Melbourne, Sao Paulo and Tokyo are prepping for their own showcases later on this month, and amongst this creative list of cities is none other than Vancouver.The list of talented and emerging designers making their way over to the beautiful Pacific West Coast for VFW next week is dynamic, diverse and distinctive. Wantering was able to score exclusive interviews with some of the best and the brightest showing at VFW, which kicks off next Tuesday March 19. Today we chat with designers Liu Lu and Michelle Goldie of Goldie London.

Lu describes her foray into designing a “result of a series of coincidences,” but this was a path Lu was destined for considering she won Parsons School of Design’s prestigious gold thimble award in 2006 and studied design in Paris.The Luvon by Liu Lu collection has been a hit with urban women all over Asia. Featured in the Chinese editions of Vogue, Marie Claire and Harper’s Bazaar, this glamorous metro-sexy line is designed for the professional modern lady who is feminine, cultured and enjoys a night (or two) out in the city, Lu explains her goal is to “shape the image of the new woman. The new woman is not only attractive by traditional standards, but also strives for inner beauty and fulfills her responsibility to society.”
What is your personal motto?Man is what he believes.What’s the biggest challenge you face in your business today?The concept of an independent designer is still relatively young in China. We need to be patient as the consumers and the general market needs time to adapt to this concept.Who are your entrepreneurial and designer icons?I like Coco Chanel very much, as she created a brand with a clear feminine touch in a relatively male-dominant society.What are your plans for 2013?We will open our first directly-operated store and try to deliver positive energy through our brand.If you could give one piece of advice to your 14 year-old self, what would it be?I would tell her not to hurry, to enjoy every day as a fourteen year-old. Young, modern and with a playful and rock-and-roll chic aesthetic, Goldie London is for the fresh and fashionable who are willing to take risks. At the age of eight, Michelle Goldie was already making her own clothing. From humble beginnings, she bought herself a sewing machine and made and wore her own clothing.
Persistence and commitment went a long way. Michelle launched her collection in 2006 at London’s famous Portobello and Spitalfields markets. In 2010, Michelle met her then business consultant Gawain Blizzard and together they incorporated Goldie London Limited to create a global growth empire which has seen the brand establish itself globally and is a true London rags to riches success story. With celebrity fans such as Pixie Lott, Florence Welch and The Saturdays, Goldie London’s edgy and easy-to-wear line cannot go unnoticed.

What is your personal motto?Live fast.Vogue Magazine once stated that Goldie London “tickles the fancy of some serious fashion icons.” Which fashion icons would you love to dress?Alexa Chung, Kate Bosworth and Cara Delevingne.What’s the biggest challenge you face in your business today?The world economy and access to capital. Also the constantly changing supply chain.Who are your entrepreneurial and designer icons?Philip Green! Clever man,Topshop is such a powerhouse. Designer icons include Balmain and Givenchy, but it changes with season.What are your big plans for 2013?We are launching a flagship store in 2013 in East London.
