If you go for what you want, good things will come. Moving from her home in the Netherlands to Canada, Leonie Markhorst decided that she wanted to be more involved with the fashion community. So, she started the fashion blog, The Signature Bow, and went from a fascinated observer of the buzzing online fashion community to a noteworthy contributor.

Engaging The Signature Bow‘s audience with animated blog pieces on fashion, interior design, and anything that inspires her, Leonie has created a blog that really conveys her unique sense of style and view of the world. Proclaiming her closet nearly bare of colorful items, Leonie prefers a muted, edgy and minimalist look for her personal style.

What’s the best thing about having your own blog?

The best thing about having your own blog is that you get to decide what to publish; you have full editorial control. It’s a great creative outlet.

What is your personal motto or mantra?

I am a collector of inspirational quotes, and always like it when I find one that suits my current mood or situation and becomes my mantra at that point. That being said, there is one personal motto that I truly believe in and always helps me in any situation: “listen to your inner voice”.

    Who are your style icons?

Miranda Kerr, Emmanuelle Alt and Geraldine Saglio. All three ladies are the epitome of effortless style and manage to look super chic with ‘minimal fuss’.

You are all over social media. What’s your favorite social channel and why do you think it’s important, as a blogger, to be connected to the world via these various channels?

Social media is the fastest and easiest way to connect with the industry, gain exposure and engage your readers. It’s also my go-to for the latest news and, of course, a great source of entertainment. My favorite social channel is Instagram – I could scroll through my feed for hours at a time.

What are three secrets about yourself?

    1) While I wear heels in the majority of my outfit posts, I am actually pretty much always in flats when there’s no camera in sight.

    2) I have a dog, Peanut, but am actually a total cat person.

    3) I enjoy a good private (one-person) dance party in my apartment…in front of the mirror.

What is your favorite Instagram pic?

That’s a tough one considering I spend so much time scrolling through pictures. I have to say, Margaret Zhang’s ‘flat-lay games’ of her favorite items are really awesome.

What is one of your favorite pieces from our Wantering Tumblr site?

The Balmain Guipure lace boots. It was love at first sight when I spotted them on Sara from Harper & Harley. They’re just super sexy.

What would you style this item?

Probably in an all-black look – they’d look great with skinny jeans or leather pants, shorts, a twirly dress that is cinched at the waist… These booties will take any outfit to the next level.

The weather is slowly getting warmer, what are you most looking forward to wearing this summer?

Denim cut-offs, wrap skirts/skorts, soft sheer tees, and occasionally my bikini.

If you could give one piece of advice to your 14 year-old self, what would it be?

It’s easy to sum up a bunch of things you wish you’d done differently and would want to tell your 14-year old self, but you know… you shouldn’t. I think this quote (from my extensive collection) is very fitting: “Everything you experience and learn in your life makes you who you are and will be useful”…  Good or bad, see everything as a life lesson. Don’t dwell on the negative stuff.
